Building and scaling susbcription models from ground up

At Newslaundry, I built the subscription model from the ground up during a time when ad revenue dominated digital news and subscription models were virtually unheard of. This innovative approach became the foundation for the public-interest, impact-driven journalism that defines Newslaundry today.

From developing pricing strategies and designing bundled plans to audience segmentation and product marketing, I crafted a seamless zero-to-one subscription journey. A key milestone was launching India’s first digital news bundle, driving a 214% growth in premium subscriptions within a year. By analyzing user behavior and optimizing retention strategies, I scaled the subscriber base from zero to over 70,000 paying members.

Building a common product platform with The News Minute and replicating the subscription success there

At The News Minute, I led teams that institutionalised subscription strategies tailored to its southern India focus, creating a shared growth ecosystem with Newslaundry. By aligning audience insights with strategic pricing and retention frameworks, I expanded its subscriber base and established a sustainable revenue model that maintained editorial independence.

Expertise in subscription innovation

Beyond Newslaundry and The News Minute, I have consulted for media organizations, specializing in pricing models, cohort segmentation, retention strategies, and crafting targeted product messaging. My work has consistently delivered measurable results, empowering independent media to thrive in competitive markets.

Through strategic planning and execution, I have built subscription ecosystems that prioritize sustainability, growth, and innovation, ensuring journalism remains independent and accessible.
